HMS Endeavour returns to Whitby

HM Bark Endeavour a replica of Captain Cook’s ship arrived in Whitby, Scarborough on Friday 1st June after it was towed forty miles by sea from Middlesbrough.

People filled the harbour walls and cliffs to watch the historic arrival to the ringing bells of St Mary’s and a cannon salute.

The steel replica was built in 1993 and was brought by local businessman Andrew Fiddler in 2017.

Mr Fiddler said: “It was fantastic to see the Endeavour coming through the harbour entrance in full glory and receiving a great Whitby welcome, knowing she will be staying put in her rightful home.

“We can now look forward to the final stage in her transformation, from being a rundown function venue to becoming an engaging and entertaining attraction.”
